Background
When a U.S.-based converter of pet pads faced uncertainty with overseas suppliers, they turned to BiOrigin Specialty Products (BSP) for a faster, more reliable domestic option.
Pet pads (often called puppy pads) consist of multiple layers, and BSP supplies the carrier tissue, a key layer that helps transport liquid to the absorbent core. One of BSP’s six mills, located in East Hartford, CT, specializes in producing these specialty tissue products.
Challenge
The customer first reached out in summer 2024 but wasn’t quite ready to move forward. That is until rising concerns about global supply chain stability moved the converter to act quickly. They needed a domestic supplier they could trust, with the ability to move fast.
Approach
Tony Kapfer, BSP Sales Manager, worked closely with them, “When we connected again in early fall they were ready to go to trial – and so were we.”
In less than a week, the East Hartford mill produced and shipped sample rolls. Just days after receiving them—on the Tuesday following Labor Day—the converter ran the material through their machines. Within 30 days of the initial trials, their pet pads were on the market.
Conclusion
This project didn’t require reinventing the wheel—but it did showcase what BSP does best: fast, flexible response, high-quality product, and a hands-on approach to partnership. In under 30 days, BSP went from first trial to full production—and helped a new customer stabilize their supply chain in the process.
